Shear grab problem

I have a problem with the hydraulic connections on my shear grab. I’ve tried the connections that split to work the rams on varying degrees of torque but when in use it slackens and tightens and ends up leaking after a few grabs. It didn’t used to do this the pipes haven’t been changed the only thing that had is the loader. Any tips?

Just a suggestion, get a mole/ vice grips spanner ,clamp the ferrule of the fitting and rotate 60 to 90 degrees anti clockwise before tightening the main nut. My thought is that the rotation of the pipes, attached to the rams at high pressure unscrew the fittings. My theory should keep them in a state of constantly trying to tighten, 🤔

Fittings might have orings on them, you get bsp with and with out.

Also pipes probably too short and pulling hard on fitting.
Could move the quick release fittings so they are mounted on the headstock, this works far better and neater.

i put new quick release pipes on it because they were too short so they are plenty long enough it’s the horizontal ones if you know what I mean than go to each ram that’s the issue.

Tighten them up to stupid tight, if that fails then loctite them!

Are you tightening them up hot or cold. Probably my imagination but ours has trouble on the ram connection and tightened hot seems to solve the issue.

funny you mention it it’s not been above -5 in the mornings when I feed up for about the last 3 weeks since I’ve opened the pit so it’s always cold?

check them for orings then, get new pipes and tee made, if over tightened the cone maybe damaged or might have distorted by the welding. cheap skate idea to weld the Tee on anyway but lots do!

The hoses may be old and hard/brittle and not want to flex much, replace with more flexi pipe (yes some hose brands are more flexible than others!!)
