Iv just spent the afternoon tidying you a mess some shearing contractors made of dry ewe hoggs, bellies left on, wool down there legs and sheep crutched out 4 weeks before hadn’t had there tails touched.

Would your neighbour's son be interested in going on a BWMB shearing course? Got a couple of spaces available on one at Kilmarnock Monday/Tuesday next week.130 Hoggs done today. Most were good shearing, some would have been better with another couple days of real heat - but none were too dry/sticky...
The open necks and clear bellies were a bit too few and far between at times
Most were a nice size, nothing too big but the whole lot had a will to wriggle - typical hoggs, but my ones usually sit pretty well. Don't think they appreciated being in a shed with no water last night
Neighbours son who is just learning to shear I'm half teaching/watching over - I'd guess doing 10-12 per hour, his dad who isn't a great shearer (in very good sheep I can do 2-2.5 ewes to his 1, but I wasn't at that pace today) and me... wish I had my tally counter so I knew how many I was doing myself, but between the 3 of us we were doing around 60 an hour.
290 done last 2 days. Not sure if I'll get many more this week, it's wet today and forecast for tomorrow and Friday isn't looking good
Only the studentWas there not anyone there when the shearers were in?

Can't find the 'grinds your gears' thread so putting this here as just need to vent my spleen. Penned a load of ewes ready for the shearer this morning, went off to do another batch, when we got back the pen was empty as the landlady thought that they "looked a bit hot". .
Bet the air was a bit hot!
I wouldn't class Loaghtans as "cleverer" than anythingJust a bit. Portlands and Manx, cleverer and faster than your average sheep, took some persuading to go back in second time round. Hubby knew she had been out of order, came out offering beer and all sorts .

Damn right. I can shear, but I’m not fast. Happy too day I’m a very clean shearer but a good shearer does 2 too my 1! I never begrudge paying the contracting lads for coming giving me a couple of days getting the bulk done. Couple of days at 350-400 a go and I can manage the small outlying bunches. Done 130 suckling hoggs of ours and 40 odd ewes for the farmer this afternoon out on keep. Lad came helping me thankfully. Was that fecking hot I was almost at keeling over 3/4 of the way through! Hoggs sheared beautiful, ewes sheared much better than expected too! Most of them were Welsh mountains and I’m used too them not being ready until August! The World Today with Sally Sara - ABC listen

Booked in doing a small lot for tomorrow night for a horsey neighbour if it stays dry... good beer money for the Highland
