Ooh I love shearing plump round tight skinned shearlings, their wool is so soft and easily taken off....did a few old welshies too, it's like taking off the bristles from a brush, sticky too.
Go my welshies to do tomorrow, not much wool on them mind and as fat a butter.

Some of my welshies shear clean and have finer fleeces but others are really coarse but shear easily too. Some of them however have fleeces like carpets stuck together with thick yellow glue. Getting under it takes some doing but once under it has lifted and will come away. Love my SWM welshies, keep them to breed mules from.

Did some pure lleyns today they were good going.no bellies an open necks.

You'll need that beer money for the highland.someone told me its £7.50 for a pint of cider at the cheers bar 😳

I reckon this year is going to kill the Highland...

Organisers have f**ked up beyond comprehension IMO. I'm only going because I need to get out and do things after the last 2yrs - and see folks I've not seen since 2019.

If drink is too much at the show, I'll just save it for the city at night

Scotsheep was excellent for the very fact it was great seeing people that I hadn’t come across for ages. Not really looking forward to the highland with all the chat about trade stands giving up space and several bars not going to be there either. The social was the best part of it

Last day shearing my own sheep. 180 cross bred then 85 Welsh.

I’m meant to be going to the highland for a stag do but got behind with shearing so will miss out. 😩
It was the ever increasing number of stag party's at the Highland and the behaviour of those attending for that reason that has lead to a lot of the changes in the social side of the Highland.

The early closure of the bars and the end of the once famous "Herdsman Bar".

In my time going to the Highland I have never saw an ever increasing number of stag parties.
They certainly are not to blame for the end of the herdsman and tighter drinking controls which have followed.

Hey @yellowbelly sheared at a place tonight and they want to improve the quality of their wool so they've brought a Lincoln ram and a few ewes. I agreed that it is nice wool but still worthless.
I'm afraid so :banghead:
Before covid we were getting 80p/kg for it.

In 2020 we got 5p/kg for it.

Had a letter from the WB a few weeks ago saying they were paying 32.8p/kg for our 2021 clip but it didn't give a breakdown on what the Lincoln wool was.

What they will get though is more wool per sheep.

How did you get on clipping them?

Did some 'pets' for a neighbour/friend last night. Decent going - Valais cross can't remember what tup, and 2 ewes... tup was beautiful shearing. But the woman had clipped the ewes at lambing because there was so much wool - decent going but no oil in the wool at all, cooked the cutter 🙄
The other 27 were fine going. Extra beer tokens for the Highland

130 hill ewes in to do here today but raining as I get her them in... a bit damp but hopefully not too bad. Do these and that's my shearing finished
