Sheep and cattle feed barriers

Anyone got feed barriers that will do both sheep and cattle. We want to be able to feed sheep in lambing then flip a panel down or something and put cows and calves in the shed. They have to fit on 20ft bays?

Iae used to make timber base diagonal barrier with a lift up hinged flap in the base. I think when I enquired it was cheaper to buy the 2 different barriers.

We already have sheep ones so could probably just buy cattle ones as well but I don’t like so much stuff about the place

Ive seen some somewhere online. They have a 'removable' board at the bottom.
2 problems with it though.....
1) anything removable will inevitably be removed by said cattle.
2) I can't remember where I saw it.

What because the timber is soft now? It’s only to be used as an over spill for cows and calves for a few weeks till turnout

The welding is crap on the wood part of the barrier feeders and does not last very long and the wood is so soft that it just splits after a couple or so years on IAE cattle barrier feeders.

They just are not made strong enough for cattle!

I wish i had never bought mine and instead had put up concrete panels for the bottom of the feed barrier with a metal feed barrier sat on top of the concrete panel. ( and this is what everyone i speak to are now doing )

I have the bottom wooden IAE sheep ones that have a gate in them as well and they are fine it has to be said for sheep.

Don't waste money buying bottom timber framed barrier feeders for cattle, they wont last much more than 2/3 years!
We've had ours in since 1997 in one shed, and 2007 in the other shed, 10 sets in each. Havent replaced any timbers but have had to reweld the steel supports but it's really not that big a job. Ours are hinged to allow easy transfer of cows into the middle passage for swapping groups around or treatments etc

Top pic barriers are nearly 30 years old and great but newer ones arnt half as strong. Bottom pic is how I make cattle feed fence but the shed I’m looking to do has straw in most of the year then lamb in it then a month at most of cows n calves

Ours have been in for 10 to 12 years, sucklers plus calves in from oct to jan, then sheep in after that from jan to apr. Look like new, never touched the timbers.

Do you have any pics? Would they be strong enough on a 20ft bay or do you have a post in the middle

We shuttered some up and poured concrete in them. Then put cattle barrier on top.they were all different sizes in the shed where the sheep lamb.so left a gap at each end ,in between the barrier so you can easily jump through.
To stop sheep coming through the barrier we put sarkin board halfway up using U bolts.

Used 2 bits chanel vertically attached to post and slid 2x 3"x10" timbers into them and a 3" wide cattle feed barrier. Lift timber up and put a pin in each end and can take one timber out and then lowers barrier for yearlings etc. Picture
