Itās hard to tell when some get no subsidy and others get 100s thousands some have wind turbines and some donāt etc the job aināt star sight forward bu any means. And yet some buy only top end stock year after year after year, do you think they are doing it at a loss ? cos I don't
as one said to me just as well to give the same feed to something good as something crap
But they have all the hidden costs of feed wormer / fly treatment , sales/ transport , looking after and the dead ones , not so much margin as you think over and above headline prices , the early singles might seem cheap but they are gone before most of the outlay .Yeah I donāt get it either, I know itās to do with supply and demand but when the best/healthiest lambs are gone by 10-16 weeks with most people the lambs make Ā£70-90. The ones with erysipelas, joint ill, continued lameness, scab, gastroenteritis etc etc are the ones making big money now! This is a total generalisation but itās the only lambs I see near me after February, couple hundred next door at the moment that need a .22 to sort them out
I spread some lime last year!None of you have said youāre going to improve your ground with lime and nutrients.
My work for sheep farmers has dwindled to virtually nothing in the last few years.
I spread some lime last year!
Do I win a curly wurly??
I'm spending mine on a or 2 when chance arises
Iāve got a few bags of prilled in the shed, ready to spread when the snow has all buggered off.
No no, be fair too yourselves up there. Iāll go too Ā£46.50 this next time...Donāt you worry there will be plenty Ā£45 lambs for you in Dingwall this backend. Iām not saying how big they will be but they will be there !!!

Meaning no offence too @Top Tip. but I bought fairing of sheep up there last year including a drag of top end Cheviot mule ewe lambs and shearlings. The only luck I received was Ā£5 on a pen of 10 ewe lambs I gave Ā£128 a piece for!!you'll be looking for more 'luck money' then
I thought thatās where luck money became a āthingā was up north?M

So Iāve given up on luck money north of the border!!
Last year would not have been very good for luck money as the sellers were not able to interact with the buyers, some folk do leave luck in the office but itās not something Iāve ever done because I see the giving of luck as a way to introduce yourself to the buyer so that they will remember you next time.M

North England. Scots have deep pockets and short arms.I thought thatās where luck money became a āthingā was up north?

Thatās a fair way too put it. If the fat buyers are only just hitting reserve they donāt get any āgreaseā. When they shape themselves I leave a decent envelope or 2 in the office.I would always want to understand what trade was before leaving luck too - if I only scrape a lowball trade Iām not likely to leave any, but if itās a flier then Iām as generous as the buyer was.

But ewe lambs at Ā£130+ and not even Ā£5 luck on the pen was getting demoralising! itās nice too feel the sellers appreciate if you push on for their stock.
Iām going too remember that one!! thatās brilliantnot his fault the under bidder was too tight.
