Can someone tell me what brushes I need to prep sheep fleece for show, last year she peeled early on in the year so I didn't have to do much wool work on her thankfully as it was my first time showing šŸ˜‚, she's still in full fleece , looked at my local shop and they only had sickler bushes in , can these be used or do I need a carding brush to get into the fleece , (Cheviot ewe)

Thanks

Use the slicker brush first to get rid of any knots/ tough parts in the fleece and break the wool fibres down then use a carding brush to pull the wool away so you can start to trim and get the wool to take shape. Iā€™m no expert but thatā€™s my advice, hope that helps

I don't show, and most of our local shows are already past, so I might be way off the mark but surely from now on there will be very few sheep shown in full fleece? My thoughts would be to hand clip her standing up leaving as much as you can so you can trim her into shape afterwards.

Most breed societies have a rule where sheep must be shorn bear after a certain date in the year - depending on how you interpret this you could shear them end of august (after all the shows) and then by show season the following year she should have a good fleece to trim and shape up

Speak to the breed society secretary, they will more than likley have the information you need and hopefully put you in touch with an experienced person who shows your breed.

You need a carding brush , if your going to do a lot you can buy rolls of the wire to put on your own wooden base , its not cheap 6" square was about Ā£25 or so pre covid , god knows now as i imported a 10m roll quite reasonably few years back , make sure you clean the bristles as its usually damp wool left on that rusts them out ,
