Not secure in the event of an overturn, or collision, !!
Was told someone got reprimanded for a strap box, with two straps over it wasn’t secure in the event of an overturn ,
Total boll ocks I agree,
That’s rubbish I’m afraid you are securing your load for normal road conditions 100 % forwards and 50% rear and to the sides your not securing your load for a roll over event

Don’t really see why hire companies are using tractors to haul, when they only charge £86 each way to move with HGV low loader, 18m Telehandler,

I should think they can afford such cheap delivery charge with a weekly hire of £470. That’s nearly twice as much as my 17m’s go out for, and I’m not the cheapest in this area by a fair way.

More to the point, I wouldn’t send my low loader to move a machine even 1 mile for £86. Stays in the yard unless the figures stack up.

The faceache post makes it sound like a hire company, more likely it's a contractor, which for all we know from the info given is carrying out his business legitimately. I understand that the tractor used must be involved in the operation, which I'm sure could be argued one way or another depending on the work. The law around this is so blurred and complex it seems like a deliberate tax on the working man.

Next job I’ll ask you for a quote,
That will be interesting,

How are the cowboys making things worse, Is that a serious question?

Because they have accidents, cause harm, generate complaints and bring negative attention to the industry. The powers that be then decide more needs to be done, so more new rules and stricter enforcement makes life harder and more expensive for those who were doing things right in the first place.

If the Plant hire company upthread is running bent hauling plant with a tractor on red and cutting corners they are benefitting because they can undercut those doing things correctly.

If someone is too thick to sheet a heaped load and they cause an accident, the police who attend will from that point forward keep a closer eye out for more uncovered trailers.

Do you really want me to go on, it's all so bloody obvious.

I believe they are looking at securing for a roll over event too now, the usual thing of rules and regulations changing all the time I suppose.

You could start by enforcing the current rules better, but whenever that happens people get all outraged. Put those caught out of business.
Tilley pass has everyone worked up but if the farm the kid who died worked on was a little more professional, it might not exist at all.
Personal responsibility would be a start but I suppose that isn’t going to happen if people are too thick to do things properly or think current rules should be ignored.
It will probably end in MOT’s and operators licences, doesn’t have to though.

Unfortunately in the real world many rules are not enforced enough, and I for one am not allowed to enforce the rules on others.

Covid. Unfortunately lockdowns are history now.

First lockdown was wonderful for taking most of the dangers of the road. Biggest risk to my physical health these days seems to be drivers of otherwise legal vehicles who overtake tractors turning right. Full working indicators being used well are no defence against that danger.

Tilley have been dealing with the wrong agency! they should be talking with DVSA (Driver Vehicle Standards Agency) who proform such things as driving tests MOT & HGV tests and roadside vehicle exams. HSE are just interlopers & the DVSA would not give them any room at all on roadside checks, indead they hate them as they have a serious lack lack of vehicle knowlage. This just shows up Tilley for what they are just another form of Red Tractor & are best advoided. If you want proper trailer safety use HGV garages with rolling roads which is the proper way to do the job & will be cheaper than Tilley.

Other than chainstraps can someone explain what is wrong…. Presume tractor running on white and as far as I am concerned 5 ton dumper and 5 ton digger along with probably 6-7 ton trailer are all within weight limit. Or is it to do with RFL and should not be classed as agricultural tractor more construction tractor? And not be on highway, I have had an infrastructure project for UK Gov and the contractors awarded project regularly towed on highway bits and pieces of kit.

They didn't mention the load binding, implying they were happy with that?
