Shogun sports

Are the older 05-06 shaped models just a L200 with a different body? Have been thinking of a vitara as a rough truck then noticed one of these with 80k miles and not a scratch on it for 3k....

I ran 2 Mitsubishi 2.5s for 18 year between them no belt problems but the head went on the last sport I had but that was after ten years and it wasn't worth repairing at that stage. Water pump replacement was all the first got.

Old man has had 2 shogun sports both 2007 v6 petrols, put 150,000 on first then picked up a 2nd hand one exactly the same for 3k with 16,000 miles on it a few yr ago. It’s on 60,000 and same as the first the only probs have been the gas conversion kit.

he loves them, I find them uncomfortable, cramped, rattly and cheaply finished.

The good thing about the 2.5 is when the timing belt goes - 9 out of 10 times it only needs followers as they are designed to break in the event of pistons making contact with the valves - cheap and easy fix

They will also run fine without the balancer belt, had one for years where it was not on. Bit lumpy on tick over, otherwise barely noticeable

Prone to HG's as others have said, but if caught early enough the head will not need skimming, and its not abad job to do.

Overall, they are reasonably good engines given their origins can be traced back to the late 80's

Toyota Surf would be just the job, same as the small landcruiser, has low box to.
There’s a few on eBay with higher miles and auto boxes... but there toyotas so atleast they’d still be worth something when knackered

I don’t really want to go down the pickup route as id much prefer one of these types of vehicles with the back seats out
