Yes the virus is bad but this finance impact will kill more young fit and healthy people.

no - they should just mothball

how much do some of these companies make in normal years ? obscene amounts some year are announced

I'm not sure they do make large profits do they?
Pretty sure a lot of the bigger airlines have made a loss in the last few years, Virgin Atlantic being one of them.

No idea if they should be bailed out but I don't know how millions of people are going to earn a living if airline travel comes to an end.

What a complete tosser Richard Branson is !
Happy to take huge profits in the good times but soon to cut his staff lose and ask for a bail out ,
He could sell his island for a start
I don't think you are right in that, utter selfish c^nt and parasitic ars*wipe would be far more accurate.

My guess is that he will - entirely deservedly - be widely shunned after this, a modern 'Boycott'. (y)

News reports this morning suggest the chancellor has stated that the airlines must find alternative ways of funding starting with shareholders. Fair enough - shareholders want the dividends so they perhaps need to dig into their pockets now rather than the good old tax payer having to stump up the bill. I was just writing a list down of all affected businesses last night and ran out of paper. The economic “stretch” of this is so wide, that a domino effect would easily happen. Then what? Anyway a bit of good news. Donald has allegedly stated that America will be over this and “open” by Easter!! Dream on Donald!

Disgusting of Branson I would say, Clive hit the nail on the head, all the billions these big companies have made, where are the reserves.
Ryanair boast of having 4bn in reserve and have wondered aloud just how long they can survive without revenue, maybe up to 12 months but they really don't know.

Thatcher's mantra was survival of the fittest, has the current Tory party already forgotten the dogma of its heroine?

He didn’t specify Easter this year, next year or beyond in the clip I listened to....
