Should we still be holding matches in current situation

No !

A ploughing match with a few hundred people sparsly populated in a large field, against thousands of fans in a stadium that arrive crammed on public transport.

If you follow that logic of banning ploughing matches, you have to ban going to pubs and shops.

If they ban matches then the next thing will be farm machinery auctions .

As long as you conform to Cheffins new dress code, not so much 'black tie with cummerbund', more 'Tyvek suit with twine belt'.
[I think most of us belong to a time where being asked if you were "wearing protection" meant something else entirely...]

Motorcycle Trials are still going

Cleveland National on tomorrow on North York Moors around Castleton

A few hundred Spectators (at most) dotted around on the Moors should be fine - 8’ apart of course

One thing Is the scorers use a punchcard system where the rider gets his score entered on a card around his/her neck

Scorers are reverting back to a score board system, to avoid personal contact

All people over 70 now have to self isolate, that must be 50% of ploughmen.
Thats government speak for "go away and die " I am 74, live alone with no family, need monthly prescriptions! How does that work when I an supposed to be in seclusion?
The generation affected are of the stiff upper lip variety, they will lie there quietly, getting worse while believing that "I will be better tomorrow" until they are not! And no one will notice!

The 2 local matches up here that were due to happen this weekend have both been cancelled today.

considering 80-90% of attendees would be in the at risk categories then it’s a decision well made in my opinion.
As the government safe distance is a yard, how long do you think they would be closer than that?

Agree it all looks a bit OTT, but we must be seen to be doing the right thing, i run a local domino league and have had to suspend all matches, people are sh*t scared of the catching this virus, its not good out there Harry. :poop: :poop:

They are indeed, but why? The death rate I found is one percent, and indeed the official advice is, (pared to the bone) go home till your recovered!

Are you really asking this???

people stop to speak to each other, people use same portaloo as each other, crowd gathers whilst waiting on results, people congregate round snack van.

yes, maybe sounds ott, but if you have people coming from all over the country,Possibly carrying a virus which could put me or
My family at risk, then I’ll quite happily sacrifice a few days ploughing for there safety

All valid points, but with the poss exception of the loo, all easily addressed, no food van, no prize giving, competitors to wait in their transport while prize cards are placed on relevant plots, trophys can then be collected.
If people want to stand close together thats their problem, not the organisers.
