Well slap me on the arse and call me Maureen but this September Indian summer has played a blinder ...

400ac in over three days of full sun and two clamps extra rammed (though I think there will be quite a bit of shrinkage and leakage)

Fields already regrowing though so might have to scavenge bales or more likely sheep on tack. So grass silage 2020 done
Just 330ac of maize to fetch ... no doubt it will piddle down until 2021 now

We are all done, last field yielded bale and half an acre of haylage. Only did it to bulk up haylage tally to out winter some cattle. Not really cost effective even with mostly own equipment.
Is growing away like mad again so will be grazed in the winter.
Never made so much silage for such a bad start to a year!

Fingers crossed weather says good for you with maize!

Peg and I have just been sheeting up,it’s been blowing a gale all day and has just dropped now,all done for the year, had to leave a good 30acre in various fields due to being so wet travelling, didn’t make as much mess as 2nd cut though where we had to roll for a couple of days after.
Yields have been down on the wetter fields due to being so wet, won’t need to open this years silage till about 2 weeks time so shouldn’t be bad for volume and I’m planning on grazing my low yielders by day next summer so will gain there.

4th cut mowed yesterday, or I thought it had been until the contractor rang and said he had forgotten to tell the mower man of 14 acres of off lying ground. Mown this afternoon for Monday baling, rest baling tomorrow.

We finally finished our 3rd cut on Friday, 3 weeks after starting. It was a bit wet, there was 3 inches of standing water in the corner of one field, after getting off what we could we had the digger man to clear the drains and they were completely blocked. The joys of renting 🙄🙄🙄

And then this happened. Guess its going back to where it came from. Brand new. Got 45ha done and then this. Anyone got a good suggestion for a silage rake? Mergers are just too expensive since we need to import them from your side of the valley. No one selling them in South Africa yet. Need something that can get atleast between 10m together.
