Hi I’ve read some old threads about SIM card gps, just wondered if the technology had improved and was more reliable nowadays, I’ve been told roaming SIM cards would be best, it would be for a fendt varioguide system

Which VarioGuide receiver and modem is it (model year and original brand)?

No need for technology improvements. Our VarioGuide modem is a 2G only modem and I've never found a spot (field or elsewhere) where the modem would lose signal. UK might be different with phased out networks. We have another AGI-4 receiver with a 3G modem but it mostly works on 2G because locally 3G has been phased out with 4G LTE.

Roaming SIM cards help when different networks cover different areas but if you start with patchy coverage. Need to check local coverage from different networks.

Roaming sim is the best solution for rtk imo, 2g is all thats needed

I have a roaming sim with Fendt vario guide. With a Novatel receiver. I have 2 farms quite a distance apart so it’s the best system for me. It works well but I have had issues with it occasionally loosing signal. Not because of reception but the software. Over the last few months I’ve not had ntrip working correctly and have had to pull the fuse to reboot the system. Fendt really need to have a master on and off button. The roaming sim will pick up signal where my phone won’t.

It looks like this has been solved with a new SIM card, also there is a new login address I have had to set the system to.

Ntrip works very well it is spot on but I would suggest getting the card through the dealer or set up by them and make sure you have the latest software update all the time.

I should also add my dealer has been excellent at sorting the problems and i have been able to keep going when it’s been important.
