Sky+ box dying

What are my alternatives? Currently on a multi channel package with no movies or sport. Would like a hard drive to save programmes & films & HD quality. I've never used On Demand services or any pay per view. I'm usually working during weekend daytimes, so the Formula 1 or rugby union internationals are fine for highlights only.

Or do I just bend over and pay Sky a bit more for a Sky Q box?

Sky just do not offer the goods to warrant paying their fee. There is so many channels to watch on freeview and on demand/catchup you can do without the crap sky provide.
Only thing they have going is the sport and they sure make you pay for that.

My mum used to pay for sky ultimately to watch the cricket. I bought her a Now tv box (smart t.v.s already has it) and she can buy a pass for 24hrs or a week if there is a test. I do the same if I fancy some football on a Sunday afternoon. Could do the same for f1

I think sky is very expensive but their f1 coverage is outstanding.paying for jd is wrong though with many free view channels already in hd

Entertainment package on Sky can’t be matched by freeview really. The Mrs loves it and there’s some good boxsets etc if you have the time. Just freeview wouldn’t keep our household happy.

But it seems bloody expensive when you look at the bank statement.

Thanks all. I've done a bit of research on Firesticks etc. I don't have good wifi in the living room despite an extender but I do have a good TP link with an Ethernet connection so that rules out Amazon. I have a good internet connection.

I see there's a parallel thread running on Alternatives to Sky.
