Haven’t seen tanks done with pillars in years. Thing of the past around my way. A complete nightmare to erect and of no benefit. Walls are a far better job and tank mixing is simple. Any large pillar tanks around me have had air bubbler mixing systems fitted due to mixing issues.
Mate has put a 300’x 120’ (at a guess) slalom system up. Very impressive it is too.

How many mixing points does that have?

Anyone know approx cost of the aeration systems - presume they are only feasible for a large install.

How is bubbler system working?
Idea seems good
Running costs? Any one know

Last time I spoke to him about it, he said it’s fantastic. Umbilical contractor has been to him twice this year for example and starts pumping. No prep work. Tank is always mixed. Tank slurry consistency is the same from start to finish.

As far as I know, it is set to do it’s thing after 9/10pm at night running off cheap rate electric but mainly the fact there is the odd smell of slurry in the air when it’s mixing so doing it late at night is better than during the day when people are about.

Never asked about running costs but I don’t think there is much cost to it. What’s the cost of diesel required if you have to try and mix it with the tractor?

Know a guy that put a new bubbler system in 18 months ago, tank was around 120x60 at a guess. £19k
I think that it would be prohibitively expensive for us. I would say economies of scale would work in that guys favour. The cheap part would be laying the hoses in tank floor - expensive bit would be the pump and associated timers etc.

Does DEFRA have any guidance/requirements on building slatted tanks?
Teagasc state that they prefer cylindrical pillars as opposed to square ones. In a tanks this small would the shape have any bearing?
