We re did ours with high strainers and high shire, think it was maybe called badger netting. Had an HSE visit and nothing was said about it.

I've never seen any 'official' guidance. Suspect a lot has to do with the location of your pit relative to other working areas of the farm, footpaths etc. The closer it is to the possibility of kids in particular getting a bit adventurous the higher the standard expected to be.

Going to replace mine with clipex deer posts,I’ve had electric above sheep netting for years but the wood posts have just about had it now.
That’s what’s happened with ours 8” thick 8ft out the ground wooden posts rotted off after 13 years....what height are you going with the clip ex posts and where do you get them from? Sheep netting same as before?

We used clipex with 1.9 meter high deer wire and a strand of barbed on top. Nothing should be able to go through or over it.

We’re in the middle of doing ours in this stuff

That is legal requirement.

We’ve spent a while without a fence around ours and I’m adamant and still maintain a poor or inadequate fence is worse than no fence.

We’ve gone for 1.8m and I’m happy that it’s safe. I’ll also be filling in a reception pit this year and replacing it with a pipe as that is a death trap. 8ft deep and cast walls.
