SNP gender recognition plans

Trans people in and of themselves are not a threat. But this legislation removes medical oversight and will allow sexual predators to easily gain official recognition as female, thereby enabling them to access woman only spaces for the purposes of offending.

Disproportionately high numbers of trans people currently serving custodial sentences have a history of sex crimes.

Do you have numbers for that?

So a straight cis male sexual predator is likely to come out in the public space as trans in order to gain access to female/girl space? 🤔

That's 48% of trans prisoners who are sex offenders, contrast with the wider prison population, whereby the figure is 18%.

Report from 2020.

I wouldn't say likely, but there have been several instances of sex attackers who come out as trans post conviction, who are then housed in women's prisons. This has resulted in CIS female inmates being assaulted.

Article from 2018.

There's a causation correlation argument to be made, as well as one of the "validity" of all of those trans offenders. That's not to say trans people aren't valid, they are. Transmen are men and transwomen are women. However, as has been suggested in previous posts, some (male) sexual predators may be posing as transwomen in order to gain access to female only spaces.

Without detracting from anyone's chose gender status, or denying anyone's lived experience, I strongly believe it is right and proper that some spaces remain exclusively CIS female.

I can't really 'like' that but I would commend DeGecko for providing source information and providing links in an accessible format. A skill a few more forumers could benefit from learning.

In my experience of secure services, transgender people would be housed with people of the same sex that they were born with.

Unfortunately wider government policy appears to be that trans individuals are now housed according to their self identified gender, if they have a certificate of gender recognition, regardless of medical treatment or genitals. This is why the Scottish law is so dangerous, because these certificates are now effectively "self certifying", and only require 3 months living as the chosen gender.

It would be extremely foolhardy for a person to try and engineer it for themselves to be housed with people not of their original gender- it could be dangerous for them to say the least.

I accept your points though in respect of the wider community, particularly with no medical oversight- that alone is surely shortsighted.

I guess the SNP are priming the 16+ voters trying to widen the electorate and get themselves an independence vote.
