Number of passes is irrelevant. Its net margin that counts.
How many actives do you want to mix. I would say 6.
4x leaf layer CTL is cheaper than one full dose SDHI++ at T2. If they both did the same job, which has greater cost?

Wow theres no wonder arable farms are struggling with all these inputs (n)
I grow 10-15 acres of spring barley a year for wholecrop. Used to combine it and do 3 to 4 tonne an acre every year. That was with one dose of nitrogen at sowing and a squirt of mcpa i think i used fungicide once too. I assumed arable farming was easy after that shows what i know
And how much attention to detail do you give your stock?

On a small scale I agree with this. However if one starts persuading oneself that increases in passes justify upping sprayer capacity the case is less convincing. BTW talking of unnecessary jobs I could have done with a quad trac to recover a drill I’d parked in a swamp.

But it's the same with stock - all sorts of nutrient supplements and medicines often used when probably not needed in MOST cases (not saying they are never justified on some farms). Many would be a lot better getting the basics right - colostrum management and intake , correct use of vaccinations, good ventilation etc. And still a lot of recreational grassland rolling goes on.......
