Sockets for use with spanners

Bahco is owned by Snapon.
Snapon spanners and sockets are still the level by which everything else is measured but bloody expensive, only upside is the proper lifetime guarantee. Bahco is very good in their own right but there seems to be an inconsistency in their stuff sometimes ie some items are very very good and others are not. Always would put a couple of Bahco adjustable spanners in the tractor toolboxes as they are as good as there is and then I recently bought a couple of small Bahco socket sets to put in the tractors also and they are very chineasy. The Snapon stays in the workshop.

Halfords sockets are pretty good really.

Untill you use the extension in an impact driver,. The male end of extension is hollow to hold a locking mechanism. This causes it to twist, wrong tool really so my fault
In same set there is an extension without the hollow end. Much stronger

i see snap on say most bahco tools are manufactured in europe. i have a 3/8 and 1/2 sets of sockets and they seem ok but being retired they don't get abuse.

Bahco, Elora/Draper Expert or Teng. Fap-off tools are rather pricey for agricultural work I fancy where the risk of theft and loss/driving over is a bit higher than the risk of damage.

Wouldn't use anything but dedicated impact sockets in a driver, they beat sockets to bits otherwise.

I'll not argue with you as I may be slightly biased.[emoji57]

I'd love a spanner drawer like that... but I suspect my entire tool collection wouldn't cost as much as that single drawer :D

I have a bit of Teng stuff which I like a lot, and some Draper Expert which are cheaper and are decent enough if nothing special. For 3/4 inch I have an even cheaper brand (USPRO/Bergen) but as someone pointed out, with so much actual metal in the 3/4" stuff an expensive brand isn't so important, you ain't going to break it so easy, so long as it isn't absolute crud.

Breaker bars... well the heads are often not covered by warranty, they break. You can just buy replacement heads, they do a job for a few years and then replace them. Alternatively buy a larger drive socket set. The 1/2" breaker bar gets a lot less abuse that could break it if you have a 3/4" socket set.

If you've got the cash then I'd be buying gedore tools. Without a doubt some of the highest quality hand tools you can get.
Agreed. When I worked offshore Gedore 7XL and 1B spanners were all we used and if I’m ever in a situation where I need to lose some money (I wish!) I’ll be buying a full set of each. Both excellent for different jobs.

OP it’s worth checking if a Gedore 1B spanner with the offset ring would allow you to access the strut nuts while still having access to the centre.
