Soil Association BBC Radio Appeal

Did anyone else hear the BBC Radio 4 Appeal for donations yesterday by Monty Don for the Soil Association?
I thought it was all a bit strange and desperate. Monty looking for money to set up in field soil labs to monitor and fix the damage farmers have done.
It seems odd and unworthy, has it really come to this?
I can't see people racing to donate, especially when later in the day we had a real appeal by DEC for the floods in Pakistan.

I wish he'd stick to gardening. Endlessly whining about ancient meadows that have been ploughed up. Yes Monty, that was done during WW2, when a nation facing starvation needed food.

And as others have pointed out - "ancient meadows" were just permanent grass fields

What’s wrong with using the existing soil analysis laboratories, sap analysis, leaf analysis?

Sounds like what they want already exists, unless of course they’re not getting the answers they want.
