Soil sampling cost?

What are you paying for soil sampling at the moment?

I'm really looking at the cost of basic soil sampling and subsequent analysis, so 25 cores taken and bagged up as one sample for analysis. Soil P, K & Mg indices and pH on lab report.

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

We take a lot of samples throughout the year. We charge around £18.50 for a standard P,K,Mg & pH lab analysis. This includes the price of collecting the samples and courier etc. If pH is known to be variable we also do an in field pH sample every acre or 2 and map this aswell.
Samples come back from lab as a pdf with fert recommendations and Gatekeeper formats if required.

We do a lot of broad spectrum too which are a really good test to have done but most go for that when they know they have a problem, not as a matter of course.
If you can't sell them for £18 you needn't bother. There is no money to be made at that, believe me.

I had some basics done free by someone, then had a broad spectrum done on 1 of those fields, £35 and a rep came out to sample and posted it (y)

Key is to apply for spreading biosolids. Get the water company to pay for the full suite including heavy metals
Yes I know some farmers down in East Anglia who did that, problem was that the water company then got the farmer to sign a contract to take the biosolids subject to the soil results being ok! Think the cost to the water company (WC) was something like £95 per sample and that was per 5ha. Think the WC wised up pretty quickly to speculative farmers.

Leaving you in the dark regarding several other key plant and animal nutrients.
Yes, but when you've had no clue for years about your soil nutrient status and have just applied the same old compound the step up to basic soil analysis and integrated nutrient planning is a big one! A step in the right direction and leading to more detailed understanding of nutrients and soil...

Free in Wales via Farming Connect :p:p

Only if you do a small number each, as part of a group.

Individual farms are ‘only’ 80% subsidised, as long as you’ve been approved, been to a ‘aren’t Farming Connect great’ meeting and have a ‘personal development plan’.
Having some done at the moment.

So, am I right in thinking there is lots on here that consider spending between £10 and £20 per field, every 4 years to get a snapshot of the nutrient status, feel that it's too much money?

Around £18/ha for precision sampling every 4 years. Saved me many times that in targeted P, K and Mg. The lime gets done manually with a good pair of eyes and the soil type maps.
