Spade Wheels

I am trying to trace a set of spade wheels similar to the ones used on our grey fergie back in the late 60's. From memory (I was very young at the time. honest) they had fergie steel middle but instead of attaching to a rim it attached to a steel plate. round the edge of the plate was cast iron spades approx 6 inch wide on the outside and 4 inch wide on the inside shaped like a sharp triangle and attached with 2 bolts. The spades about 1 foot apart around the circumference of the wheel alternating spade on inside then outside. Also had a 2 inch steel band which fitted around the rim which allowed you to go on the road without the spades digging up the roadway. If anyone has any I would be interested in buying or if not for sale then taking a mould of the spades so that I can get a set of wheels made up.

I know where there's a couple of sets laying. Not too sure what they came off. Although the owner would rather leave them to rot, then sell them. That whys there's 80 years of clutter on his farm still. I can ask when I see him next.

I had seen them on ebay but there not really the sort I need as they sit on the surface like a tyre whereas the sort I am after are similar to that shown in cosmiccrofters picture. These penetrate through the surface and spade the land rather than plough it.

Never said it was going to be easy to find just amazed you found a photo to prove that I am not losing my marbles.

I dont think the ones we had were actually fergie but made by a local blacksmith using fergie centers and a set of cast iron spades. Looking to do the same again to make a set of 4 to fit on my Holder. Theres loads of spades on the net with holes below the point what I need is holes at one side of the point so that it can be bolted to a steel plate.

Any chance of a photo if its the right type then I do know transport guys with regular runs to NI.

Not if you have enough people sitting on the bonnet.

In 1968 we put a DB 1200 on them to plough a field even the crawler was not man enough for.
To be fair it was extremely wet that year on some very heavy clay.
The poor little BTD6 could not cope with a TS46 and 4 furrows.
We had 3 on the the back of the 1200 but the only way we could keep the front down was putting the crawler on a chain in the front.
Can't remember how long it took to plough the 25 acres but the finishes were something I always like to forget

I think the wheels you are looking for are termed "Tip Toe" wheels, I have seen them on standard Fordsons. You may find someone with one of them who can give you the lug details. There is, or was one in Gloucestershire owned by a J Read, if my memory is correct.
