Honestly, what planet are they on? I couldn't believe the rip off prices the latest offers flyer from spaldings contained. For example, a quick Google found these comparisons;

PCL tyre inflator offer £78, toptoolsupplies £40

Alemite pistol grip grease gun offer £49, Amazon £29

Rubbolite bolt on beacon offer £25, hgv direct £17.75

There's taking the pish, and then there's removing the entire toilet!

Spaldings have a discount structure that varies with who you buy it through. You rarely pay list price.

I buy through a buying group who have an exclusive deal i.e. no other similar suppliers. This discount is better than that offered by a well known big buying group based in Norfolk...

They can be ok if you call them up and ask them to beat a price. They like that sort of thing.

I get a call weekly from the rep and they are allways too dear.bought a telehandler mounted brush recently from does.call spaldings and price started about 2000, then 1700 and eventually 1300 which was best price.got a sweepex from does for less and then a few weeks later spaldings call and will do it for 1000.could have done this to start with.last autumn i wanted power harrow blades and called em.prices for tungstone was about 50,durafaced 30 and standard about 20.negotiated and got no where for about ten minutes so chap put me through to my local manager who then reduced the prices by about 30% instantly.i was really pee'd of as they could do this to start with and i told him.i bought locally for a lot less than spaldings inthe end.

Had Spaldings ring up couple of months ago saying how they had special offers and were good on prices, and asked why I stopped buying through them. SO I told them they were too expensive, rep said that things were different now.... Ok I said " I need 100 knife sections for a MF 36 combine" no problem said the rep, we can do them for £1.30 each. When I told him that the local Massey dealer was supplying them to me at 75p each, you could have heard his embarrassment. I did suggest they didn't ring untill they became slightly more competitive!
Their prices are a joke, and thats why I buy from Pan Anglia instead of Spaldings

APM aren't bad either.

Frequently all the Spaldings/Avenue/APM/Pan Anglias of this world buy from the same manufacturers anyway. I use tungsten tipped points which are made by Agricarb who sell to Spaldings & APM.

Spaldings accounts is what stopped me buying anything off them, total shambles, double billing for the same stuff, different prices billed than had been agreed with rep, there are other reasons but my doctor told me to forget them to help my blood pressure

A friend enquired of their weigh cells they have recently advertised, somewhere in the region of £13.5k for two cells and the little computer but to go with them. He then enquired of something similar from another weighbridge supplier and could get similar for about £5-6k. He hasn't bought either though.:rolleyes:

Bit of an aside, but the original Mr Spalding was an acquaintance of my grandfather. Mr Spalding was a wood turner who made shafts and such like behind his house in Portland Street in Lincoln. His wife, Nora, used to deliver these products round the county on a motor bike and sidecar. Gran and Mrs Spalding kept in touch until they died. Good old fashioned honest folk to deal with. History now, and I don't think any family connection remains with the firm today.

We still use them for some parts but you have to negotiate.
