Sprayer tyres for children’s sand pit?

Like title says, what’s people’s thoughts? Could they harbour chemicals? Leaching? How dangerous?

They are 30+ odd years old 44” size possibly off tractor row crops or sprayer. Already being used as a sand pit for children. I personally wouldn’t take any risks and would like to give advice.

I'd be worried about the stuff that's intentionally in the tires more than anything they might have absorbed. They certainly don't put as much good for the tire/bad for you stuff in tires as they used to, that's why they don't last, as far as I know. Are you in the tire business? what can you tell us?

We had a 16.9 R38 tyre for a sand pit, for our two kids, 30 years ago.

It would have seen plenty of Metasystox, DNBP, Bayleton CF and all manor of other chemicals that have since been banned.

They're both grown up now with little ones of their own and haven't shown any 'after affects', I think you're worrying too much.

Biggest problem you've got is you're not going to get much depth of digging for 'em in a rowcrop tyre - get 'em a bigger one, FFS.
