Aim for 400 or so

Less if sowed early in march but usually the above for early April
350-450 march - April
Tgw 38 or so

I get far better yields at higher seeding rates with oats so won't be changing

I have always drilled ours at the same rate as Spring Barley 185-200kg/ha however going to cut it to try to improve specific weight. Have always been ok in the past but last years were very light and never made milling grade.

What variety and bushel do you need for milling

Oats in General Need a good swig of that Sunshine in a Can to be honest but time it right & leave them for 3wks after.
Bale or chop the straw Chopping better i think,
Fab 1st Wheats after either.

This is the first year we have roundup'd the oats. They were very late and green. Don't think that helped our sp weigh as we probably did them a bit sharpish. We were still cutting them in late September though.

Straw needs left a good while before baling.

Canyon here last few years, usually direct drilled after second wheat, 180kg/ha or thereabouts. Dont usually pre harvest glyphosate, but dont get carried away with the N either, about 90units. Straw baled, but usually have to turn it to get the sap out, usually 2.5t/ac grain and 2t/ac straw.

What about the straw , does it need some liquid sunshine to make it fit to bale ?

Even after some sun-in-a-can, chances are it wont bale behind the combine. Ted it out behind the combine and look at it again in a week. Clear it and get it ploughed. Always ploughs nice after oats. Under *no* circumstances chop the straw and incorporate.

And wheat suppression. Fair enough if you are after that. I'll plough it all in in preference.
.
Don't think that's a true statement grew the highest yielding fields of wheat into chopped oat straw... Must have just got lucky I'd rather have that straw on the top than it providing a toxic layer to harm the roots of a plant , n then for a plough to come along n bring all that disease back to the top.

You dont think it suppresses the wheat as well as the weeds? Pleased you had good results from wheat into chopped oats, but I have had pee-poor performance after min-till and great after the plough.

Perhaps it's the claydons a share acting as a row cleaner that makes the difference, herbicide use here is at minimum after chopped oat straw...
What works on one farm might not on the other I guess
