Well I’m no expert, but it’s value to you if you don’t sell it to him is the value of the grain less the cost of harvesting and drying if necessary,
Say
3T/ac @ £110/T = £330/ac less £30/ac to harvest leaves £300/ac

But if only 2.5T/ac more like £250/ac

The other way of looking at it would be to work out your costs of getting the crop that far - £50/ac to plough, work & drill it, add fertiliser costs of at least £20/acre for P and K offtake, add nitrogen fert costs then your sprays & £4/ac for each sprayer pass.

Is there a weighbridge locally you could run the trailers over? Agree a price per tonne at your leisure and agree a combining cost per hour or per acre. A combine cutting 50 acres/day at 3 t/acre and £35/acre would be around £1750/day or £175/hour in a 10 hour cutting day cutting at £15/t. How big a patch are you talking about? Hire some weigh pads from a plant hire firm? https://www.libraweighing.co.uk/hire.html

What will barley straw be in the swath this year? £80-100 in the swath? There's a big question. Take the average from your local straw auctions.

Sell as wholecrop.
Buy in straw.

Three weeks time there could be 15t of dry matter per hectare. If you're in an area where straw is dear then surely there is move value putting the lot into someone's clamp even if you buy straw in?

Good advice thanks. Have just come back from interested party. He seems to be back peddling a bit wanting me to get the combining done and he will take the grain if it comes off alright.......in other words I take all the risk and he gets the grain so I've said forget it

Most bizarre post I’ve read of late , why not sell him some barely after you’ve cut it if he only wants a patch I presume you have more
Reason is because he approached me wanting to buy the standing crop .
Not my idea but his and was just wondering if anyone else had done similar deals . I've never come across it before.
