We have been approached by local dairy farm to sell grass standing instead of baling as hayladge to sell.
We are thinking it would work to 5 hayladge per acre.
They will chop it and clamp it.
We will mow, Ted and rake it, so it's in the row really not standing.
How much per acre shoul we be on for grass in the row, 2nd year seeds, clean and fertelized.

I don't know, but by the time you cut, Ted once and row up is 20 quid at least, 5 bales an acre ain't bad for second cut. I'd say a guess at between 50 to 60 quid an acre to start the ball rolling.
What did you think?

40 quid for fert+spreading 3
10 mow
6 tedd
6rake
?‍♂️

He'd be desperate for grass at that
Better for you to sell the 5 bales to the acre for 30 each ?‍♂️

£25/t and let them do all the work. You do nothing.

5 bales per acre at £30 per bale, £150/acre.

If you're been kind, then take £10/acre off that as you won't have any baling costs. Can't see any reason to be less than that.
10/bale might be nearer the mark, bale lead wrap stack so £100 per acre?

I expected it being a more common thing, but no-one will want to put there figures on.
Cheers

Say 100 acres @130/acre add 5k for foraging cost is 18 k for 300 tonnes silage is £60/t.

Good luck.
I totally agree with you, that it is expensive at £60/t. But, if there's 5 bales per acre and it is worth £30/bale (less say the baling and wrapping cost), then it has got to be that price - otherwise may as well sell it as baled and wrapped.

Plenty round here have made few tonnes an acre 1st cuts..
If I was looking to buy it would be on a value per kg of DM in relation to feed value.

Still cheaper then concentrate
Unless.......
I was calculating this last week.

So my organic concentrate price is £400/t
Round bale organic silage is £40/bale.

So if I leave my grass to bulk up and lose quality and the need to buy silage. I used concentrate as its easiest to feed with no other costs involved.

How do you actually make the calculation? Is it practical?
I think it’s a great idea to sell based on data but round here farms don’t have weighbridges or on board weighing.
We do sell standing crop occasionally so I would like to do more than measuring the height of grass
