Had a bit of a walkabout today.
Looked at some Oats.

I'm happy with these. Then on to some beans, they are still a bit small for my liking.

Then on to some wheat.

It's some Zyatt, planted in the last week of September.

I'm quite pleased with it so far, its has 170kgs of N so far and due N3 next week, I'm wondering how far to push it, 240kgs possibly, the white splodge is my Cocker Spaniel in crop surfing mode, her being so well hidden makes me happier that our straw yields will be better than last year.

Gleam. 0.3 canopy, litre CCC, 3lt manganese, 0.5 flyer.

So I don't like big tank mixes, especially gloopy ones. So I dropped the epic and adexar. Just the pgr and mineral and a spot of strob today. Rest can go on later once this has soaked in. "Manual variable rate" IE me pressing button employed.

Graham.

On an experimental note:

Vibrance, SPD and undressed all look identical.

Spring rolling has increased tillers by c15 percent, but has put the crop back a good ten days. Will be interested to see root density. With the frost, rolling may not have been ideal.

With the next fortnight given as wet, increasing tiller numbers will surely give you higher yields, albeit a later harvest.

Graham's excellent yield depends upon its tendency to have a more than usual number.

It’s looking like I won’t be getting the combine out much before August bank holiday anyway

Reasonably pleased with these Elyann sp oats, given that this week has given them their first rain since drilling.

Interestingly, though not yet scientifically, the field which I harrowed lightly at speed last friday when spinning on some clover has gone "bananas" in the last week and looks both thicker and you cant see where I went.

I had an elderly relative who used to tell me that when he had thin crops he'd roll them in the spring and drag a set of chain harrows behind the rolls.

Harrowing and rolling works wonders for grass so why not for its cousin cereals.
