I have a Nixon single phase, simple as possible but does the job, it doesn't get huge use here but has been no trouble at all in 3 or 4 years. Needs 16 amp supply though.

Nixon are very well built from a parts bin of quality components (pump motor, boiler system and valve chest).

However there was a waiting list apparently!!!

I bought a machine built with the same quality type of bits, but for less money from these people about 6 years ago

Very pleased with it.

Another very happy Nixon owner here. Had it 8 years and it's been faultless. Very powerful, nice to have the heat too. Rarely use the soap though. Would be very simple to repair if ever needed - it's a true farmers machine. Only needed a replacement jet hose nozzle end due to frost which was only about £20 so seemed reasonable.

Another one here. Had it 2 years and not had any issues with it at all. Dead simple to fix if needs be, as above, a farmer's machine.(y)

Single phase max of 1600 psi at 13lpm.

Up to 10hp 3 phase 3000psi at 15lpm

Fine for washing machinery off. If you're doing buildings you want 30lpm at 2500psi ish. So this:

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/nilfisk-alto-poseidon-8-125-cold-water-pressur

And if you still want hot water you could plumb in something like this:

We haven't tried adding hot water yet but I understand it works better for cleaning machinery?

We also have a PTO powered machine but that Nilfisk gives just as much grunt.

Do you use that one then?

I was thinking about the 3 phase 10hp motor Nixon.
Bit worried about the cabling required though!

To be honest I've not used a hot washer. I'd imagine it removes greasy deposits better but I don't see how it would remove muck stuck fast to concrete faster?

We started out with a two man PTO washer from Hugh Crane, it gives 15lpm to each man or 30lpm to one. We soon decided each man wanted 30lpm so added the Nilfisk.

The PTO washer has two 100 metre hose reels on it so the Nilfisk can plug into one of those.

The gear was really bought for the poultry shed as saving the £6k a year to have it washed soon paid off the admittedly expensive washers.

Make sure you have enough hose to get across your shed, you don't want to be moving the washer about.

Even with all the kit though we sometimes decided we can't be bothered to wash the pig shed and get a contractor to do it!

I'm not sure it would. You'd also have the added problem of huge volumes of steam floating about in the shed if it was cold outside. Can lose yourself if not careful I bet!

We have an Edge steam cleaner which is great for what we need to do, tried washing a shed out once with it at 70degC to try help lift muck and like steevo said it just creates masses of steam and it uses a heck of a lot of diesel as well we found, much better technique to soak the floor first and then wash with cold water
