Stephen Carr in Farmers Weekly

He's written about the NBA's appalling kick in the balls for every livestock farmer in the country. I've read the conclusion of his piece several times over but can't work out whether he's being serious or not. If he's being serious it shows that it isn't only the NFU and NBA that don't understand methane.

Am I allowed to photo it and post for those without FW?

He seems to contradict himself in the last two paragraphs,so you dont know wether its tongue in cheek or not.Maybe hes done that on purpose for debate?.................or maybe he didnt know how to end his piece with a deadline looming so thought,"f**k it,i ll just write any old sh!t".........or hot air.......

I was always under the impression the majority of beefs carbon dioxide emissions. Come from the production of cake and nitrogen put on the fields. Cows fattened earlier need more of both of those and so have larger carbon footprints. Am I getting it all wrong?

The NBA are firmly in the camp of "methane bad" because they've clearly never had it explained to them properly. The fact that cattle graze without the digging up of any fossil fuels whatsoever has completely missed them. Of course feeding them grain and protein grown and harvested by fossil fuels is far more of a problem, but they are too dopey to see how stupid they look to anyone with half a brain cell.

^^^^^^this exactly.

I'm really sorry he's (Carr) bought into the nonsense -I've every respect for him generally.
(as I've said elsewhere, on quizzing both Shand and the Louth fella, neither had any grasp of the science, and were trotting out soundbites from their pet scientist, assuming that methane from cattle is something to be counted. Oh... @DaveGrohl I did explain it to them, in simple layman terms, but they weren't wanting to hear it)

I'm perfectly prepared to accept steadily rising fossil fuel taxes -including N fert-, but this is just a waste of time....and we have less of that now.

Given that his column in SE Farmer is generally down to earth and sensible, I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt that it is an attempt at sarcasm.
It's a bit clumsy though and given the fact that this whole shambles is being conducted by some fairly thick people I don't think now is the time for subtle humour.

As I say, I really can't make my mind up what he's thinking. Does anyone have his contact details? I don't suppose it matters much, it's the Farmers Weekly lol, but when people are writing stupidity like that within our industry you've got to ask questions.
