Stick readers - Agrident vs Trutest

I need to decide on a stick reader to marry with a Tru-Test EzeWigh7 weigh head.

I can go for their own stick reader, such as the XRS2 or an Agrident ARW250.

I think the Agrident offering is a good bit cheaper!

I dont do full recording but do want to keep track of certain traits.

Anyone used either?

Will the agrident readers talk to the weigh head? (I will be calling them this week to have a chat anyhow)

I think it will as that weigh head has got the type Bluetooth that will talk to it.and others

@TGM has written a fair bit about them, recently the s3 weigh head won't though ax its got a different type of Bluetooth set up.
I t would be so much better if all this stuff was more generic/ standardised course the individual manufacturers wouldn't make so much money then

I have seen the XRS2 for sale for not alot more than that, try and screw them down a bit. Would always go XRS over SRS, if your paying that much for a stick reader youll be better off getting the data stick Otherwise you might aswell buy a £250 handheld

Am I right you use Farm Matters. If I remember it links with Agrident. I would go with an AWR300 for the data base. You wouldn’t need to take your tablet with you then because it should record everything and it has a better read range if you have it on the crate. I’m sure Neil will give good advise.

You need to remember that the Trutest stick does not connect to the Trutest S3 scale, so to go for Trutest stick you may be limiting your connectivity. Agrident readers make an attempt to connect but don't yet retrieve the weight, but that's a work on hand. But it's not a work on hand with Trutest as they just can't connect, never mind retrieve the weight.

All Agrident readers from the lowest cost APR250 handheld to the highest AWR300 stick use the same bluetooth chip which has the necessary BLE mode to connect to the S3. A further point is that the APR600 handheld reader now has an optional stick attachment which turns it into a sungle handed stick when you want a stick, and a pocket reader when you want a pocket reader. we make the brackets to attach the extension stick to the APR600 here at TGM, so when we supply the extension wand, we also include the brackets to enable the stick to be attached, as per attached photo.

The connectivity point is only an issue with the S3 Trutest scale. The other Trutest scales will connect to both Trutest and Agrident readers - Easyweigh 7, IDxxxx and XRxxxx ranges.

Yes I have used it and in my static pens I have a simple weigh head conversion that needs a tablet and stick to run data to get DLWG, its OK but I want a more seamless setup for my mobile yard.

The Ezi Wiegh 7 weigh head does the DLWG with out the need to a tablet.

if you don't get through by phone, please leave a message. Due to COVID, there's only one person in the office to answer calls. Everyone else is working from home.

I have an AWR250 EID wand and I can't get it to connect via Bluetooth to trutest eziweigh7, and I can't seen to get the hold of anyone at agrident who can help!

alternatively, do the following. menu -> setup -> interface setup -> Setup Scale
Set Scale type to Trutest
choose to go back
choose Bluetooth
Set Bluetooth Mode to master
Set BT profile to SPP
Set BT Passkey to 0000
Choose Start BT enquiry
reader will find the trutest
Reader will beep and BT icon on top will turn green.
You're connected and ready to weigh.

weighing depends where you got the reader from.
Select Menu
Select Tasks (if you have a tasks option)
Select Choose another task
if task number 9 is Weight/Muscle, then choose this.
If there is a weighing task which doesn't have the options below, contact whoever you got your reader and/or software from for assistance. If you do have the options below, then the reader started its journey from TGM Software Solutions as all readers provided by us are prepopulated with task software free of charge before dispatch, even if we're selling through a different reseller, unless that reseller has their own software and requests that we don't supply ours.

Assuming you have a task number 9, Weight/Muscle, select it
There will be 4 BT weighing options.
BT weight
BT weight + comment
BT wt + Mu + Fa + CS (weight + condition score + Muscle depth + Fat)
BT wt AutoSave

if you choose BT wt autosave, the reader light will be flashing waiting for the first sheep.
when sheep is in the create, let reader read the EID. weight will automatically copy from Eziweigh7 to the reader and save. Light continues to flash waiting for next sheep.
you don't press any buttons on reader until last sheep has been weighed. the process is automatic and fast

If you don't have tasks as a menu option,we provide 2 versions of software that will install the tasks menu option. AgriDataTransfer , which is provided free of charge on all readers provided by TGM, and available to everyone else for the small sum of £5 per month or Select Sheepware which is our full management program and is priced according to flock size. Please contact us if you want more information.

There are other companies who also supply task software which directly downloads from an Eziweigh.
If you don't have tasks but if you do have a menu option 'Join data' you can use this. That allows you to read an EId and retrieve weigh from an Eziweigh (after about 6 button presses each animal) The recorded data for that is downloaded via AgriLink if he reader was branded Agrident or via SensleLink if the reader was branded Allflex. AgriLink and SenseLink are more or less the same.

I'm having the very same issue;
TruTest EW7i has BT symbol on.
Went through the above steps you suggested, initiated BT enquiry but still my APR600 can't find or pair with the Eaziweigh

try it again., the whole, process from the start.

but first go to bluetooth device history choose and where it says clear the blue tooth history choose that one,
then check all the above post mentioned choices are correct

then switch off the apr 600

leave /make sure the trutest 7 is switched on

then switch back on the apr 600 and go through the process agin ie start with bt inquiry be patient and take your time wait for it to come up with the weigh scale then wait agin for a decent few seconds , then press select on it, it should come up with a pairing notice which you should say yes to /select then it should be done. but it wont be if the pairing notice doesnt come up on the apr 600 . after choosing it when the inquiry finds the scale, even if the apr 600 find the scale it still has to show that pairing notice, i had the same trouble at the start but i cant remember really how i resovled it. tbh. just do it few times will be my sugestion. atm./

Hi,
I have followed what you suggested and unfortunately still no result...
It won't find the weigh scale. Gotta be a faulty reader I reckon, because I've tried everything numerous times.
Thanks for your help, appreciate it.
