Stitching spring barley into winter wheat

Back in early March I stitched some spring wheat into some areas of patchy winter wheat. There’s a photo of it below. The spring wheat has filled the gaps nicely, and I’ll just give these areas a litre of glypho as soon as the spring wheat is at cheesy ripe stage. It was about 4 hectares in a 20 hectare field.

I see no reason why you can’t do the same with barley, and then just combine it in a way so that it self blends into the shed in the summer. It’s the kind of year where anything goes!

I stitched some wheat into the failed bits of wheat back in January in the dry spell, then it got wet again and the bits I'd redrilled got wet and rotted, again. I might put a bit of phaecelia in those patches just to have something growing there.

I direct drilled into failed wheat in late April 2013 sprayed off the drilled bits after drilling
In some fields the spring barley yielded higher than the wheat left
Only had 4 fields with 100%wheat that year
It helps having a drill and combine the same width and using controlled traffic system
