Stone core drilling

Was looking to hire something like this

Has anyone used one. Thought of using tractor spools as the hydraulic power pack.

No use if the sandstone turns to paste ,wll keep jamming up

It needs to be a dry core drill,water will make it worse

Hammer and chisel,knock a stone out,random rubble in the middle, easier to knock a hole out and build back in

Unfortunately does not appear to be random rubble but a triple stone wall with an inner and outer stone wall and then a lime mortar and stone infill. Have used the same method on the doorway I filled in so I hope I never have to drill it.

Well if you can afford thirty or so new core bits keep going ,but me i would be knocking a big hole and rebuilding,do e it many times when installing boilers and vent in the old stone houses,we call it pudding stone,bits of quartz ans such like in the stone burns the core

Thankfully the core bit does not seem to be the problem at the moment. 700mm through and only half worn out so I can cope with that. I can manage with 1 bit per hole its the drill which is the costly element but I think hydraulic is the way forward for farmers as we already have the tractor as a hydraulic power pack.

Found one of these to hire including drill stand for 200 pound a week which sounds quite reasonable. Will let you know how I get on.
