How are people finding store cattle prices? Our local mart had its big autumn sale this week and we found prices were better than expected

Probably agree with you, Raglan yesterday the top was £1170 for 25m/620kg blue x. Couple of charollais over 600kg broke £1100. Happy with how our sim x sold, the Herefords seemed a bit down but not stupidly.

Considering finished price, a good animal isn't too bad but I wouldn't want to be sitting on a load of dairy bred animals. Anything lacking shape struggled. £7-800 region for 25/26m 500kg+ lim x.

Ours were in the main holstein bullocks and Charlie out of dairy cows, I'd say our Ch bred beasts were similar to the same sale last year but the black and whites were actually up £200, they were better cattle than last year but we were astounded at the trade.

As a seller they were about £200 a head below where I would like them to be at Lancaster today. Funny thing is someone mentioned the calf/stirk ring was doing a strong trade.

Nothing quite like buying at a price that leaves no margin is there?
As I have said before, and I know it happens here, many so called stores go straight to the abbatoir. To take such a beast home and add cost on a 620 kg beast that cost over £1000 would be the very definition of insanity. But that's farming for you.

Late september and on into oct-nov last year single suckled hfrs were making awful money, even with the Brexit uncertainty this yr i dont think they will be as bad as last yr. Alot of these hfrs doubled in money even lately in the fat but the grub was short and dear if you had to buy some. Feeds cheaper this year so hopefully buyers will be tempted back. What the market doesnt need is massive numbers outed too early, its too early to house cattle and a long time till turnout next spring thats why people are seeing more customers for short keep cattle and a poorer trade on long term things. Once the spuds and maize have been harvested and plantings done farmers will fill up
