Situation Vacant Strategic Farm Business Consultant

Due to our expanding portfolio, we are now looking to recruit a number of new positions in the Midlands, East of England and South Wales.

UK agriculture is entering into an era of unprecedented change as the Agriculture Act of 2020 begins to be applied. This will create challenges but also huge opportunities for farmers and land managers who are forward thinking and progressive. We are looking for people who want to embrace all of the exciting skillsets and research that are present within ADAS and make a difference to our farmer clients by providing them with the business knowledge to enable success and prosperity.

Key to achieving a prosperous and sustainable farming business is managing the fundamental resources of soil, water and nutrients to maximise efficient production whilst undertaking measures to protect the environment and biodiversity for the future. We require all our staff to have a broad understanding of these areas, in addition to technical knowledge of farm business management for this role in particular.

What will you be doing?
  • Delivering a broad range of technical and business-focussed farm management consultancy. To include working for individual farmers, corporate clients and the public sector both within project teams and with a portfolio of your own private clients.
  • Developing and applying skills and expertise in a range of farm business management consultancy services including analysis of financial accounts, preparation of budgets and cash flow planning and monitoring (using both our in-house and online software), conducting farm business reviews, enterprise benchmarking, farm diversification advice, identifying funding opportunities and grant application.
  • Some knowledge of delivering Environmental Stewardship and advice surrounding resource protection and the broader agri-environment including carbon reduction strategies, nutrient, soil and water management, farm assurance and waste management is preferred but not essential.
  • Undertaking analysis of problems and providing independent and cost-effective solutions to clients that provide technically correct and legally compliant advice.
  • Generating and following up sales leads, developing networking links with regional stakeholders, corporate and private clients with a drive to winning new business and growing a personal portfolio of regular clients.
  • Contributing to business development by promoting ADAS and developing contacts with new and existing clients, through demonstration of knowledge by platform speaking at events and through press and media activities.
  • Undertaking client meetings and contributing to writing proposals and preparing tenders.
What skills do you need to succeed?
  • Holding a formal agricultural / business qualification to degree level or equivalent in a land-based subject area.
  • Some consultancy experience in some or all of the subject areas detailed above would be an advantage although training can be provided to further develop your skill sets.
  • A strong team ethos, willingness to assist others and an effective communicator.
  • Sound knowledge or practical experience of farming practices.
  • Energetic, organised and a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Creative and solution orientated with a determination to deliver value to the client.
  • Work consistently to a high standard.
  • Have a tenacity for sales and a hunger to succeed.
  • Behaves in a manner which is seen as an ambassador for ADAS.
  • Industry recognised qualifications, (FACTS, BASIS Soil & Water, BASIS Conservation Management etc.) would be an advantage but can be provided for the right candidate.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel away from home base when required.
  • Competent user of Microsoft software including Windows, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Salary and benefits:
  • Salary range £25k - £45k, dependent on experience.
  • Sales commission scheme available for the right candidate.
