May I ask whereabouts in HFDS ?Wheat straw last night around the £80 mark . One field got up to 136 but unbelievably the best patch was 60 !
25 acres of grass failed to get a bid but sold privately after for £12 an acre .
May I ask whereabouts in HFDS ?
How does selling straw off field fit in with selling carbon credits ?
Genuine question.
OK,thanks.I certainly wouldn't like to haul straw from East to West Herefordshire. An informant tells me Lyde Arundel.
He also told me Hfd was making the trade.
it reduces the carbon you have available to sell
So which would be the most profitable on a typical year?
Selling the straw or selling more carbon credits?
I’d imagine some folks are concerned where their straw comes from, and wouldn’t entertain any that might have black grass in .You don't get much more local than a lorry load of straw in your bloody yard do you ?
You did very well with your straw yield last year compared to most.Last year selling straw added £150/acre to our cereal gross margin after costs. 1.5t/ac sold at £120/t less £30/t costs.

I spose if you grow some crops yourself you may well be concerned but is it any worry on a grass farm ?I’d imagine some folks are concerned where their straw comes from, and wouldn’t entertain any that might have black grass in .
He's got you buying 7.5 acres ww on the wrong farm.Wasn't there
Not all grass, but definitely a consideration . Big dairy farms locally, want people that grow maize for them to take muck, so are coming round to only buying straw from those farms. We do a pig muck for straw deal, and he only has my straw.I spose if you grow some crops yourself you may well be concerned but is it any worry on a grass farm ?

I did get to the bottom of the pet straw buying saga and i
think he got carried away with amount of zeros.
now youve done the job no favours ,counting chickens, I just hope we can claw back in front after last year but ive made a start at £250/ acre for straw though my back wont like it ,ho ho little balesIf only the grain yield had done as well though. 2.5t basically so we were nearly 40% down on grain yield.
This coming year hopefully we can make some extra profit as grain yields look very promising with good prices and then there looks to be good straw again at good prices.
