That's never going to happen. So stop dreaming. You need to start helping yourself.

Could you not get away for just a few weeks to start, even a week?
Just tell your dad, I'm going away on Monday, be back next week. Then drive to airport.

If it works out just don't go back. If you don't like it you can go back home again, im sure your parents will be all too glad to see you and it might wake them up a bit.

More people than anything. Started during week. Went to weigh lambs and asked father to help. Got all ready to start and he decided he wouldn't so fought with them and took whole day and done them all myself and got 28 ready to sell. Marked them and dad rang lamb group and they said keep them till next week as price may be better so has to let them all back out again, Friday night was told at 11 that he's taking them to mart on Saturday and got roared at for not havjnf them tagged even tho I djdnt know about it. Got phone call first then yesterday asking to go cart for a man I know that had steep fields and wanted me to do them instead of other men, so had him in ear asking for help and dad shouting in Oher war about lambs. Didn't get lambs done as rain came on and has to silage the fields before got slippy. So today Iv been completely blocked by family and ignores the whole day. Sorry for the rant. And j know honestly there's far far more important things than my probs but to me there big

What's your handling yard like, sounds like you would benefit from having a look at the layout. It shouldn't take all day to weigh a group of lambs even on your own. Working with sheep can be stressful enough without making things more difficult for yourself.

A good handling system doesn't need to cost a lot of money either, just wooden fence posts and second hand corrugated sheets would make a reasonably good set up for very little money.

Quite a good guide from eblex on the subject on this link.

Will this sounds familiar to me, my old man was similar in my teens, bloody ungrateful and always throwing the lure of " this will be yours someday" into the conversation. It got to the point that I couldn't work with him in the same pen, I would walk off, everything was done wrong according to his views.
It took a bloody good row and basicly a walk out for two months, I was happy working somewhere else, then one day a knock at the door and I was asked to come back. I went back but with an understanding that anymore bulls**t and it would be permanent and he could stick the farm up his hole.
It did the trick and we respected each other a bit more after, I had plenty of faults at that age aswell and I had to change a bit. Best to walk off when they try and wind you up, just leave em to it on their own, soon get the message when their knackered.

I understand and listen to all advice about leaving but I'm really not well enough to do that. If I told u wha would happen me ud probably all think I'm mad, well more mad. Iv a iae race way in tunnel for sheep. Getting the buggers in Isn't easy either, they just stand there or run half way up lane to tunnel and decide to run back out again. In tunnel i weigh bridge in middle of race and can only put few ewes and lambs at back then have to walk up and let them out all time so takes for ever. They don't seem to follow up race after each other

I suggested I have a at home holiday for while to see but was laughed at, if I'm seen inside during week I get shouted at. Eventually I just do it anyway. One thing that gets me is Iv all these people phoning me or wanting me to help them but if I suggest helping me for while they all suddenly before busy and don't want to know
most people run away when they see people in need , but their is a few good ones out their just finding them is the job ,

Can you make a pen, for just past your exit gate, but still inline with the race, and put a decoy ewe in there, the rest are more likely to go forward if there is already one there.
Work smarter, not harder, so you can give your dad :finger:

What size is the pen the ewes and lambs stand in before they go into the race.
It need to be quite small, sheep don't like being in a confined space and are more likely to look for a way out of a smaller pen.

Usually they run through race well but just weighing time have to walk back and fourth. Thinking abit making smaller pen back back of race but then would need to keep going out to fill it up to

Have a dog. A kelpie. Prob is it needs to be on rope all the time and me and dog in rope can't get the sheep in at all so need buggy. Then dad has to come to control the dog so instead of just me its me dad and dog before I can do anything easily

Will, you have said before about having problems leaving home etc...but you really need to face up to whatever is stopping you. It will not get any better while you stay at home with your dad. Some great offers above for working in England for the summer which I did for a couple of years, but I think you need to start with smaller steps.

I take it you haven't even travelled much in Ireland even? Why not come and visit me some weekend, I'm only an hour away, we don't live at the farm so you don't have to meet anyone else, I'm a similar age to yourself if that makes any difference.
