Still got quite a few sugar beet to germinate. If, I said if it rains on Tuesday how long will it take for them to emerge? I haven’t sprayed a post emergence herbicide yet but would like to after the rain but before the “second crop” emerges.

Hopefully spray first post emergence herbicide tomorrow, 1lt/ha Betannal Max Pro and

1lt/ha Goltix. Should I add 1lt/ha Mn and 0.75l/ha Oil (depending on temp) or just Mn or just Oil? Weeds getting quite big but have had nice rain 20 mm.

I've got a few big ones like that which have slipped through the first herbicide of 1.5 phen+1.5metamitro +0.75 mso+2lt MN.

Theres also a hell of a lot of bindweed. I've never seen it like that before,it must be the season.

I think venzar and etho along with the phen next time through.

Not sure. If it helps I have some miserable looking beet and I’m not sure why.

I'd say that looks like high temp phenmedipham damage.

Mine had a slight red tinge to the edges of the leaves a few days ago but nothing like as sick as yours. Did you spray them with maxpro???? Etho+pdm+mso damage would be my thinking. I've had beet look like yours on overlaps when using maxpro, goltix, oil and mn first time through.

This poxy weather isn't helping. There was a frost again this morning at 5am.

i wasn’t going say anything as I seem to do nothing but moan but my beet look similar. They had betanal macpro and goltix all in accordance with growth stage etc, no oil or other additives and yet all the cotyledons have curled a bit and the true leaves look “eaten”. I put it down to general stress due to weather extremes and it might have caught some hail damage. We had some hail last week. Did think much of it at the time but maybe taken a day or two to show up.

We had hail too. Those on the black part of the field look much better ( you aren’t the only one with wildly varying soil types in one field Doc ?)

Forecast -3 tonight then 17 deg c tomorrow here. And we wonder why the beet looks a bit peeky.
Was going to put some minerals on after tea but with a frost forecast I think I will leave it. Another dose of herbicide scheduled for soon but holding off till we lose the night frosts. First dose did a good job, nearly too good, but some field pansies holding on and some cranesbill, otherwise pretty clean.

Slightly off topic but I like watching the met Office forecast on the app, due to covid it’s now 1m long instead of 3 f**k knows why and it’s not helping

st herb apart from a few too many bindweed. My dilema is I dont want the bindweed to get too much bigger or I'll struggle to control it but there surely going to be another flush of weeds after the rain so I want to hold off until they're up but they talk of frosts for us at the end of the week so itll be next week before I can get the herb on by then the bindweed will be like triffids and then theres a fly spray to try and fit in aswell...... who'd grow beet hey!!!!!

Wingless aphids very close to threshold today. Expect to be spraying teppeki by the weekend.
Quite high aphid pressure already in Newark area. See pics but need to zoom in! Sprayed some of mine last week with Biscaya, even though crop isn't very big yet with some still not germinated due to lack of rain (approx only10mm rain last 2 months). Started to irrigate beet already.

Plenty of aphids about in Suffolk! 1 or 2 per plant but only 10ac out of 300ac big enough to spray. The second spray might need to mix with a herbicide....
