Sugar beet price 2024

I believe it said there was in theory 31,100 or something bts 1915 at opening this morning. This equates to roughly 25,000ha of crop or over 25% of the usual area. Did that and daphna and the 2 best KWS varieties disappear in 1 hr because it sold out that quickly?!?! 🤷🏼‍♂️
I'm sure it's just popular demand and a very quick uptake to grow beet as it's now such a good deal......the sceptical could think other wise!!!🤔

I thought it'd been said the seed orders had been reset. Which I thought meant the people who jumped ship early on, had to join in the fun and re-order their seed with the rest of us? Strange with in 20mins of contracts opening there was no Daphna, Harreytta, 1915 with enrich300 and more frustratingly no BTS9485 (Conviso)..

Just spare a thought for us backward old boys who have paper contracts.(IT issues previously and my portal hasn't even been updated)
It wasn't until lunchtime when I asked my bs man when us yokels would get our offer in the post was I told they were sent out weeks ago with at the time of the unilateral offer.
I then remembered that I was so disgusted with BS at the time I lit the wood burner with my contract offer pack!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 oops!!!!🤣🤣🤣

Interesting. In time gone by there has always been spare seed sloshing about til the end of drilling, yet today it was all but all gone by lunchtime. BS cannot contract more hectares than they have seed for and then be sole seed supplier.

As usual we are not been told the fulll tale about seed. If Italy has had a disaster re seed crops why has it not been conveyed?

My father would of said the buggers aren't worth dealing with!

Well @alomy75 was the seed offer reset? Or are you the one with all the Harryetta ?
The surplus is available on a first come; first served basis at a small premium to fellow TFF’ers 😉 all apart from @robbie as he used such mean words about me!

I wouldn’t know; haven’t even logged on. I’m all conviso (KWS) so I’m hoping there’s some seed with my name on in a dusty corner of a warehouse somewhere.

Anyone who knows me I was being very modest and diplomatic with my "mean" words !!!!!!😜

Could it have been reset but revisional orders kept in place and they were confirmed the moment contract screens opened!!!🤷
Just so I can have my daily fix of winding @Spud up; surely it’s only fair to those that committed first that they get their first choice of seed? They showed their commitment to BS so need to be rewarded somehow 🤷‍♂️ now where’s my tin hat…

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Plank.

As usual you miss the point.

If BS has enough seed for 9 but signs contracts for 10, then they need holding to account.

There will no doubt be plenty of seed; they’re not that daft to have area with no seed to put on it. Not only enough for drilling but for re-drilling too. But there’s seed and then there’s seed. To be honest if seed has been put on the recommended list it’s all going to be comparable yield wise isn’t it. There’s not going to be any duffers on there. I do however think there will be cases on high yielding farms where the £2 increase in price is equalled by say a 5% drop in yield by a lesser variety. But hey; it could have been a £5 hike and that would be irrelevant then.

What's more likely is the big favoured growers over order so if there's a cut back they still have enough.
