Hi, I currently get a local contractor to do my pit silage. 80 acres first cut, 50 acres second. About half of each cut would be around the pit the rest a mile of a draw. I'm thinking of purchasing a wagon and I know a fella that has a clean Taarup 1030. I've a 13T track machine for the pit, 10ft conditioner and 2 150hp tractors already. Would I be mad to buy the Taarup 1030?

It's time that's against me as we're farm builders too. That's why I was going to chance the Taarup 1030 and see how it works out. I drove for contractors for years as a chap so tractor skills not a problem but if it goes ok, I'd buy a new Pottinger next year and still run the 1030 too. Just wondering if anyone had experience with the 1030.

I know all about a Taarup 1030, have had one since 97. The Taarup 1030 was the first rotor wagon, and could be fitted with a total of 72 or 74 knives, for a really short chop. But allways ran half the knives. The only problem with the Taarup was the design of the rotor , with a lof of use, the segments of the rotor go loose on the drum, and eventually the drum shears in two, moisture from the grass probably over time gets into and corodes the drum as well. A bloke in Holland fabricates replacement rotors for these wagons.. Thm tractor trader, power wise, ours spent most of the time pulled by a JD 6400, held about 8 to 10 tonnes of grass.
