Takeuchi TB145 (1999) won't start

Any help would be much appreciated

Our Takeuchi digger won't start, everything was working fine till we knocked off for lunch. When I tried to start afterwards the ignition works but won't turn the engine over. Presume it must be an electrical issue, so far I've checked the fuses , checked the isolator switch on the arm and ran a wire from the battery to the starter motor (churns over fine) Is there an obvious place to check next? I'm loathed to start stripping off plastic sheathing if there was any where they were prone to having issues.

Battery ? I had trouble with a terminal it showed on dash as if everything was ok but turn key nothing , turned out it was just. Slack terminal on battery but sadly it had corroded so two new battery’s and jobs a good un .

Thanks for the feedback. When I ran the wire to the starter from the battery I just wrapped it around the terminal so would have thought that would be ok?. Will double check in the morning as it would be nice if it was that easy.

There is a safety relay behind the fuse box on a tb 125,stops the power from ignition key to starter

It it's the same will be worth a look 👍.

will it start and run if you put power from the battery to the exciter? Id check for twelve volts at the exciter with a multimeter or powerprobe. should be live when the key is in the crank postion.

I ran the cable to the exciter wire which churned the starter. It didn't start but I didn't think it would from that alone? 🤔

Have you got a security system on the machine, which is not permitting you to start machine?

Yeah it's got an isolator switch which is working fine 👍

It should have started as as long as the stop soliniod (or cable) is in the run position, check for power on the back of the ignition switch as well in the "start position. it can only be a few things really. Ignition switch, the exciter wire itself, or the safety relay mentioned earlier.

Is the deadman switch on the left hand control working properly?

Yeah checked that, all good 👍

Could be a fault with the alternator , alternator may send control to the start relay interlock to prevent anyone cranking it with the engine running had it in a jcb once.
Is the battery light on when you turn the ignition on.

Have managed to start it with a wire from the battery , tracked it home and running fine. How's best to access the safety relay. Seems too far back from the access point for the fuses , is it best from under the cab? Also can't seem to get the panel of the ignition armrest. Undone everything in sight but feels like I'm going to break it 😔.

Glad to hear its running, hard to say without actually seeing it in person how to get to the relay, and same with the ignition switch panel, I suspect its just "clipped" in, but im sure someone on here has taken one to bits and will be along shortly.

I had the same problem on a TB135. I've attached a couple of pages from the manual.

From memory, the safety relay is mounted on the same plate as the fuse box, but is inaccesible from inside of the cab. I think I tipped the cab and dropped everything out from underneath.

I'll try find you a few drawings or pictures.

Thanks, yeah after a bit persuasion all the electrics dropped out under the cab. Tested the safety relay and that's the problem.

My Takeuchi tb 125 is doing same as above I ordered a new relay and tried it does anyone have a photo of the one it is as I m not sure if I have the right one thanks
