Taking back control

We are all aware, the one group of people who campaigned and fought the hardest for Brexit, were the fishermen. The loss of the UK fleet was the driver for much of this communities desire to be shot of the EU.
However DEFRA have now recognised the unfortunate fact that after the withdrawal things are highly unlikely to change. 88% of Welsh quota has been sold over 50% of the English quota has been sold. Inn fact one, yes just one boat! Has got control of 20%, of the entire English quota. This Spanish boat registered in I believe Iceland with Dutch owners operates out of Vigo and lands all its catch there.
Defra and we must assume Michael Gove recognises that this situation will not change after Brexit. There is also a good possibilities landings will fall in the UK as much of the fish landed here is exported to the EU in any possible tarriff situations a skipper is not going to land here when he can simply just cross the North sea

The fishermen knew this and were active in the seller by of the quota. A bit like the dairy game on the high seas, but one that can never be allowed to go back to the free for all of pre CFP.

An interesting OP and something I had pondered while watching Newsnight a few days ago. What happens if I happen to be the owner of a Dutch trawler that bought quota. Does UK post Brexit compensate me for the EU quota I bought in good faith? Or will it just be expropriated. And as a British fisherman will I get allocated more quota or qouta again even though I sold it years ago to that Dutchman - historic like! Fascinated to see how this pans out. I always thought that there were a few fishermen more than happy to cash in quota and this has been brushed under carpet by Gove et al.

You cannot take this quota back, the courts here would not allow it.

You do like to tackle the man don’t you! Always a sign of a clumsy, awkward ill prepared player.
whereas you always tackle the subject,NOT, so are fishing quotas going to be under our control after the transition period, while Ireland will still be doing as its told and paying for it ?:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

East Sussex.

That is absolute bollox.
Writen to suit an agenda.
That committee is nothing more than a catch up gossiping shop for freeloaders.
It has even less power and influence in the greater scheme of things than @Pasty 's parish council sub division allotment committee has.
A guy of Nigel Farages standing and political worth has far bigger fish to fry and cannot afford to waste his time with such an irrelevant body.

Doubt anyone really gives a sh!t about fishermen, or their bizarre whinge that only accounts for 0.05% of the economy.

I for one give far more of a shite for British fishermen than those from any other European country.
Can't say as I give a shite for your attitude if that's your opinion.

The problem is that the quota has been bought and paid for by foreign trawlers or operators. It was sold willingly by British fishermen. You can't just grab it back without compensating the owners of the quota and then why will British fishermen suddenly want it again? If they want it, why did they sell it? To set up a new system that only allows quota to be allocated to British fishermen would be a bit odd. What next? Get rid of all the foreign firms from the country? There wouldn't be much left.

Yes, a lot of this has been swept under the carpet.
