Battery on my 05 reg 531/70 has died.it’s a jcb battery and just over 4 years old.am I best to use the same again or any recommendations for a differant brand.thanks

unfortunatally the 642 doesnt fit the battery hold down very well, good battery power wise though.

Alternatively a 665 is a higher powered version of the 663 and more like the spec a 663 battery used to be some 20 years ago!

an 05 would have had a very poor denso starter motor from factory, perkins very quickly ditched these and fitted the mahle instead.

if your starter motor looks like the one below which are oddly still available to buy from JCB and as ever theres a load of chinese/indian copies of it then i would recommend swapping it out for a 3.2kw mahle or if you want the best and dont mind struggling and cursing at it for a while then the 4.2kw Mahle will fit JUST.

Also get problems with the cheap battery isolators on them.

Batteries often get the blame for failing early but often its the starter motors causing the problem, drawing far too may amps quickly damaging the battery internally over time.

My machine has a jcb engine and I’m told it’s one of the last with a mechanical pump.im assuming battery due to dash lights glowing very dimly and despite having battery on charger for over 3 hours the charger still flashes on refresh which it only does for 5/10 mins maximum as a rule.ive no corrosion anywhere and everything looks good.
