We grow spring barley, does well with the amounts of daylight we get when it's growing. Straw is very expensive to import.

Do you buy straw by ton or bale ?

What have you got against sash windows?

They take bloody hours to paint*, and cost the thick end of £1k to replace when rotten.

* Wouldn't be so bad if it was 'just' painting.
First it's the sanding, but oh dear, some putty has fallen out....replace.
Then, oh dear the bottom sill has rotted....out with wood hardener and filler.....
And after 100 years of paint the buggers won't open.....

1000 that would be a very small sash , Westport Windows or blairs , do a mock sash and case which councils Ihave had approved in listed areas

I don't really buy any. Most folk who buy locally it will be by bale. When we have bought straw it cost about £1400 in freight from Aberdeen for an Arctic load.

I think I misunderstood your post. Do you mean you'd like to take a place on like this so you could make your own mark on it? Build some wind turbines, perhaps a solar array? Work with your local authority to see if you could designate a few new rights of way through your yard? Maybe get some caravans in?

Seems good value per acre if you could get some schemes going and BPS stays in some form. Pretty exposed I imagine.

One question though. Why no trees? Do they not grow for some reason? Surely they would provide much shelter from wind and driving rain?
