The amazon is on fire.

I'm starting to see quite a bit of outrage about the huge amounts of burning going on in the Amazon at the moment. I think (but may be wrong) a large proportion is rainforest being turned into beef ranches.

How do we as british producers capitalise on this to promote welsh beef and lamb? Which involves very little burning of rainforest.

Funnily enough, I just signed the WWF petition regarding this and was thinking that publicity about it might help us.

I think the gloves are off over there regarding exploitation of the Amazon. The new president is keen to press on. Something has to change. I can understand people in developing countries wanting a better life but this will just end up enriching the corporate elite and destroying a hugely important habitat. At some point sustainability has to come before endless economic growth, or it only ends one way.

They have a contract to supply the eu with beef now so need more grassland. German car sales are more important than carbon footprint or rainforests!

as a individual country its nothing that didn't happen here

Except we were n't burning fossil fuels when it was cleared here, and we still had to grow a lot of wood for fuel, building materials etc, so the carbon was still being cycled. Not that anyone understood any of that them.

The only difference being that Brazil didn't aid and abet in the clearing of our forest.

Hands up everyone who hasn't got any tropical hardwood in their house or garden ? Or Brazilian soya in the fridge or larder ?
in our defence back then we didnt know what we were doing

If all we do is export our pollution problems this is what is going to happen, we need solutions not export, exporting a problem does not solve it

with this rubbish about red meat production we will probably export that so called problem as well and its not even a problem if done correctly

to many people is the problem and yet we finance that

It’s the dry season.
Over a 15 year period the fires are lower than average, it’s the press hyping it up

Oh the irony......just heard kwis packham telling radio 2 what a disaster those Brazilian farmers are causing the world at large! Meanwhile he thinks the U.K. should be rewilded and defarmed (Assumedly we import the palm oil and corned beef from the moon when uk Farm production is history or maybe we starve?)
What an ignorant thing for chwis to say. Did he really say that. How the f*** does he think rewilding Britain is going to help the Amazon? If we grow no food here we will import it from Brazil! Can’t the bbc see the stupidity of this man?

OK we used our forests back in the day but I've been saying(and plenty others) for 40 years that our barren uplands should be aforrested. Had it been done I think the Brazilians and others would be more inclined to take notice, as it is we just look complete hypocrites.
