I wouldn't be without it, dad uses it by choice and leaves the JS parked up :D
It's not in use every day, but shifts a fair bit every year and is a good reliable old tool, all being well, it's coming back to the yard for a major birthday soon(y), it's been with us a long time and deserves it;)
It's still the weapon of choice for some jobs(y)

My philosophy is you can never have too many diggers:D

Yes a digger is for life, not just for digging a hole:D

A good overhaul is certainly due and deserved.
Have new chains, sprockets and rollers in the yard ready. And a good S/H set of pads, new bolts. Just need to get a new pair of idlers, then she will be all good down below!
Slew box needs re-sealing' so that's gotta come out. Rotary coupling probably wants a new set of rings too.
Is oddly a bit dead and numb on the hydraulics when cold, and not the machine it used to be, so that needs looking into and sorting!
Could do with a couple of ram rods.
A ruthless replacement of a number of hydraulic hoses.
Few pins and bushes.
A ruddy good service of the usual bits n bobs.

That will all take a little while:eek:

It's old, but no good to anyone if it's not up to scratch and cant do a days graft(y)

Yes, may well do that if folk would be interested?

We spoken about a respray. It's hard to decide, on the one hand it really deserves it, on the other, it's actually not that bad once it's had a good clean up, 28 years old this year, not bad considering, almost 17k hours on the clock. So I don't know, keep it in working clothes or spruce it up:scratchhead:, only trouble with a respray is it would need to be done right, a quick blow over would just look rubbish IMO.
But hopefully time will allow to at least take the cab off and give it a refurb, iits not rotten at all by any means, but these things deteriorate without you noticing if your not careful, and it's the bit that would suffer the most from rust, so I think that's worthwhile, and not a massive job.

I think you would have piles of interest in a refurb thread ;)
Respray is a hard one but I would say to spray it, if it's going to be mechanically sound, spray it properly and youl have basically a new digger. If cab was done up and whole digger was resprayed it would t look out of place amongst your newer machines

i have done a bit but I'm no expert some blokes make beautiful music with theirs where as i just bang a drum :D

That sounds a bit like my method!!

It is fascinating watching a really good operator. I know a local chap who makes a superb job. A mutual friend of ours says he could sign a cheque with a pen taped on the end of the dipper!

I have two brothers work for me and digger driving must be in there bloody, can get it within an inch just by rack of eye, then perfect if someone's on laser, don't need to take stone out with them two
