I hardly see anyone bar going for a paper in the mornings but tested +ve yesterday. Been feeling off colour for a few days but none of the Covid symptoms, ie i've been shivering, not hot, taste and smell are fine, no continuous cough. Felt horrendous on monday night and got tested yetserday. +ve. Yesterday and last night were grim, I never usually get ill so not got a lot to compare it too but I've never felt so bad. Shivering so much the bed was shaking whilst also pouring with sweat, everything hurts including feeling like i've been kicked in the rubbish, dizzy, struggled to stand, and time seemed to have gone funny, like if I moved my head to the side it took a while for vision to catch up. Slept fitfully all day yesterday through til 11 this morn. Fortunately starting to feel a bit better now but people claiming it doesn't exist are deluded. I've kept away from my parents who live just across the yard and thank god I did. They're in their 70s and this would have finished them off.

Newspapers are a source of viral infection at any time. I never pick one up off the top of the pile, always go about six down.

You`ve only got to go into the paper shop/supermarket and watch the builder boys with their bumcracks exposed. gathering their high carb snacks and thumbing through the papers and mags to know where the viral pool is being stoked.

An asymptomatic shedder of covid-19 coming into a space that isn't best ventilated would be more likely as a source.

Thus slaughterhouses and industries where the environment is naturally cool and high humidity. I thought we had passed that phase. Maybe not but how is collecting the newspaper dangerous?

Not so much the newspaper, but if the place of purchase isn't well enough ventilated, and an asymptomatic shedder has been in the shop, then there is higher risk of spread by aerosol.

35798 (increase of 58) were within the Leicester City Council area.
43893 (increase of 66) cases were reported in the County.
UHL reported 0 death's.(in a 24 hour period)

I read that it can survive for several days on newspaper but it was just on one of those things that get shared on Facebook so not anything to take too seriously.

The scientific bods were worried about it lasting on surfaces in general, weren't they, but the consensus is that covid can't cope with dry paper and tangly fibres for more than an hour or two. If paper is quarantined for a bit, shouldn't be a problem. Washing hands is going to be needed in any case. I've never been one to lick a thumb or finger to turn a page, but there will be those who will have had to curb that habit to stay safe.

My mother was a stickler for (mostly) gently moving unwashed small hands away from faces. There's clean dirt and dirty dirt, though, so there were exemptions when around stock.

I think a lot of us that touched our faces without thinking have changed now to automatically avoiding all facial contact when out of the house.
