The big slice of luck you talk about very much depends on age and BMI would you agree?
Option 3 is constantly moving goalposts with no long-term safety data. Why does the majority doing their bit affect anything?
The worldwide death graph on those info sites show deaths reducing steadily in waves from last winters peak. I can't see any dramatic change from introduction of vaccines.

The big slice of luck is certainly influenced by comorbidities. If you`ve got COPD, heart issues, suppressed immune system, diabetes, obese etc etc then its far safer to get the jab and avoid getting Covid.

The death rate decrease won`t be "dramatic" because the rollout to the population takes time and is gradual so, amazingly, the reduction in deaths will reduce steadily.

And the majority doing their bit? Where does that come into it?

I hope you soon feel better. Keep up the fluids, rest, and don't hesitate to contact 111 if you're really ill.
Strange how it affects folk differently, 2 friends of mine late 50s early 60s one kept testing positive even though he was never too bad and was feeling fine, the other was really rough for 3 weeks. Just recently so probably Omicron.

Heard from someone who has had covid twice. Bearing in mind she had two vaccinations before the first go (definitely fluey and rough), the second was much milder. She's had two variants ~ omicron was the mild one. She's now in her 70s.

111 are excellent, never had a problem
My wife had to take her mum to the local minor injuries clinic last week, nowadays you have to ring 111 first, after waiting for over a hour she gave up and drove her mum to the mic, all the staff were sitting around doing nothing as no patients there.

Is it strange? We are all different. Covid is another roll of the dice along the path of life. It had a special die for a time. Time now to accept for what it is.

So, one daughter tests positive Monday week past. Positive for the next six days, then clear. No symptoms. (Possibly linked to sore head/grumpiness on the previous Thurs/Friday, but that's a bit of a long shot). No isolation within the house, hugs and kisses continue as normal. No one else tests positive, now day nine since her first test. Two adults three children.

The numbers are incredibly "dull" so I`ve not bothered, they are still getting done but its pretty much an automated data run now.
Cases are around 250 a day and dropping.
Positive admissions 25 a day, currently 245 inpatients.
Patients on MV between 5-7.

The problem now is beds being occupied by positive patients that can`t be used for other stuff.

Local vaccination rate remains stubbornly low despite all kinds of efforts to encourage folk.

Fascinating that society and groups of folk have sort of settled out at a vaccination level. So while Austria mandates vaccines, the UK government is saying 'vaccine is available, you had your chance, now we get on with life, covid is normal, deal with it'. China seems to still treat Covid as the end of he world. Fascinating. Cheers for data. H

Two of them could still be right, Austria is definitely not, no long term data on covid or vaccine or combination of both so only time will tell.

To be honest I don`t support mandatory vaccination and understand why folk might be reluctant.

The flipside is that folk who have been vaccinated are far less likely to be blocking beds for folk who need surgery, like me.

There is talk that the "surge capacity" that was built will be used to support the backlog work - but you still need the qualified staff to do that and you can`t magic those folk overnight in enough numbers.

Ho hum, what a pickle it is.

Are covid (actual covid) numbers any higher than usual winter respiratory diseases in your area? My local sources say there has been odd flurry's of severe covid (that's when the media report it) but generally since Christmas things are normal except for isolating and fatigued staff. Looks promising 🤞

And to think last month they wanted to sack all the staff that weren't vaccinated.
