My grandad lost one off his David brown, he said it shot off down the field into a bank side and all that was showing was 2 or 3 blades.

I know of someone who managed to slice off an electricity pole with one of those! Apparently it was in the hedge and he watched it carefully as he approached it but because he kept his eye on the pole he failed to notice that there were some rabbit holes, his tractor wheel dropped into one and then the disaster happened.

You hear about this sort of thing, but this is the first one I've come across that is definite without the operator having done something daft. Always said thorns could be tough, but bl**dy hell! Glad you're safe...

I haven't seen if it's already been asked, apologies if so, but what sort of hours had it done? A local chap does, I think, use the same. Some around here use them for clearing ditches...  :banghead:

The only 100% safe thing would be not to use them at all. I'd put a new shaft on ( replace the other 2 shafts too ? ) and make a note not to use next to roadsides/ houses / farmsteads etc.

That's all very well, but the very nature of the beast means you have to use it next to the tractor that you're sitting on

For all the 'elf and safety fans out there, here's a 'novel' machine.......

That's fair comment, but you should add 'people, livestock and other vehicles' to complete the list... which leaves us with the choice of using them on ring fenced land, or not at all...

I'm not in the business so need to ask, is there a practically and financially equivalent bit of kit that is as effective and safer? :scratchhead:
