I saw the same fault on the main shaft belonging to a 5Mw Siemens wind Turbine, I would have thought the Germans had enough engineering knowledge to avoid a basic mistake like that.It broke because of an inadequate fillet radius at the base of the machined plate (1st picture) used to see it a lot on race cranks that had been machined badly/cheaply. Needs to be a decent radius and ideally polished. Having the end of that central drilling ending where it does doesnt help either!!
Only problem here will be the age of the machine it is a 2009 , what design life would it have ?, would they Class it as a wearing part that should be changed after so many hoursIf it is a manufacturing defect, the manufacturer has a duty to investigate, surely, and recall any machines they feel might be at risk? Car makers do it all the time.
If they are not to dear just replace them all or get some made out of better materialNo circlip groove nothing.
All the others will be checked now
To be fair the shaft does not look that big diameter wise considering what it is doing is it 40mm ?
Your sawbench would be for cutting bigger stuff though .Made me give my old bench a good check over in that area
Looks a lot stronger than your broken one to be honest, Thanks for the heads up
