The shame of the English

What puzzles me is the animosity shown by hotheads towards the English in Ireland, Scotland and Wales as they spit blood and fury at what they consider their past and repressive colonial masters, yet at the same time they all want to immerse themselves ever deeper in the great European empire that is demonstrably less democratic and representative than the UK! They need to get their act together and try some of this thinking lark.

What puzzles me is the opposite - how are the English so surprised that some (not myself - I have happily lived in England for years previous) resent their forefathers for numerous ethnic cleansing battles throughout Scotland, Wales and Ireland, whilst simultaneously holding the same resentment to the Germans.

We need tolerance - forgive but not forget - and also a humble recognition that each of our forebearers’ lineage had some who did horrible wrongs against others’.

I wouldn't think that there were many English people that resent the Germans as an entire people, even during and just after WW2 there wasn't many that did, well not according to what my dad said anyway, apparently the ex POW's were some of the nicest hard working people you could hope to meet and were glad to be out of it
so if your tying to pin that on the English mr details man I can tell you for nothing that it wasn't true then and it isn't true now, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it

Not pinning anything in a nation, but plenty individuals do - try searching through the Brexit threads on here and there’s plenty mention of the world wars.

As I wrote, we need tolerance, forgiveness and humility. All of us.

Has anyone mentioned the war and blamed all the germans that are alive today for it ?

Plenty imply these things, and clearly don’t forgive. “The Fourth Reich”, etc is written often enough.

In fact, why not complete the popular chant “one World Cup and two ____ ___s” ?
that still not implying that someone still blames or hasn't forgiven the entire German people
the first is merely stating what the EU is
and the second is a fact

It’s one of the most common themes across the Brexit thread.
Not actually from those arguing for Brexit though, is it?!
It's usually thrown around as an accusation by remainers to justify calling people racist/gammon/living in the past.

"But you referred to the war, that's racist"
"No I didn't"
"But you implied it"
"No I didn't"
"Well you were thinking it then"
